I am
currently writing a series of
books featuring the passenger
trains of Texas. Volume One will
feature branch lines, including
the Santa Fe branchline that
once ran from Shattuck, Oklahoma
to Booker, Perryton and
Spearman.
I am having a
hard time finding information on
the "Doodlebug" that once
operated on this line. In
particular I need photos showing
the doodlebug as well as info
about the last train. So far I
cannot determine when the last
doodlebug operated although I
suspect it was sometime around
1959 or 1960.
If I had
the exact date then the next
step would be to locate any old
newspaper articles from that
date that might have been
written in the Spearman or
Perryton newspaper.
If
anyone has any photos of the
doodlebug, or anything that
might help prove the date the
last passenger train operated
thru Perryton, I would
appreciate hearing from you.

My wonderful daughter Alicia, her hubby Del, and
my cute grandson, Julian live
there in Perryton.
I enjoy my time there
twice a year and really feel at
home. We visit First
Baptist-Perryton each time,they
are so welcoming. Your Ellis
theatre is a favorite spot of
mine, as is the Plains Museum.
(I hope to do some work with
them in the future on an
exhibit.) The library there is
so cute and current.
I was glad to find this
website, I can check out the
current events there, and learn
if there's any severe weather
heading my daughter's way.
Keep up the good work on

I live in Montana and work on a
pipeline in North Dakota. The
surveyor for our project is from
near Perryton. As I have an old
friend of 40 years ago from
Perryton it was interesting to
talk with this man. I know you
get a pretty good winter up in
the Panhandle but I hope yours
isn't as bad as ours will be.
It's already hit 20 below here
and we've had snow on the ground
for nearly a month. All the

I left Perryton when in 1951, I
was 15 yr's old. My cousin "Herb
Jines was the projectionist at
the Ellis Theater. He taught me
how to run the machines when I
was only 15; I had a lot of fun.
I spent many happy hours
dragging main on a Cushman
scooter and a James motorcycle.
When I left Perryton, I moved to
The Rincon Beach just north of
Ventura California; what a great
place to grow up. I now live in
Oakhurts California, just 12
miles from Yosemite National

comments. Yes I was one of the
millions that ALWAYS wanted
"out" of Perryton.. BUT I am
still here, married with an
almost 13 year old daughter. If
you thought things were bad then
OMG now being a mom of one of
the PJH kids I know why my
parents have grey hair. I loved
all the dumb stuff we should
have gotten busted for but now I
see how stupid they really
were.. Love remembering old

there, my great grandparents,
"Tiny" and my dad, Don Brillhart
were. I would go visit him every
summer when I stayed with my
grandmother, Edna Williams in

Well I used to live at Perryton
until a few years ago, almost
three to be exact. I just turned
13, so I moved during the
summer. I was just wondering if
anyone wanted to talk or
anything. Can't wait to visit in
October, & if not, in December,
but I can't wait to see
Perryton, & everyone again. It's
a great town I LOVE IT but sadly
things had to happen this way.
If anyone was wondering about
Perryton, it's a calm place to
